My husband Michael and I have called San Mateo County home for over 30 years. Now, the community we all love is at a critical juncture demanding the best of all of us. With your support, I will continue to lead efforts to ensure a diverse, inclusive and welcoming community that maintains our amazing quality of life for future generations, like our two daughters, to enjoy.
Like many of you, my community advocacy is very personal and grounded in overcoming profound life challenges. In 2005, I survived a near-death PG&E accident that made me stronger and gave me even deeper empathy for people struggling with day-to-day obstacles.
After this life-changing accident, I chose to act on my passion for the environment and women’s empowerment, and led a global clean water and sanitation nonprofit. I’m proud to have helped provide health care, clean water and economic opportunities for over two million people, the majority of whom are women and girls.
While nothing gives me greater satisfaction than contributing to the San Mateo community I love, I continue to be deeply involved in local and national progressive, environmental and women’s issues.
